General Description
This is a skilled position responsible for assisting in the operation of the water treatment plant and related equipment. Work involves maintaining correct water levels, draining, washing and refilling water filters, and adjusting chemical feed. Work also includes maintaining, calibrating, and performing minor repair of instrumentation. This position will work a varied schedule to relieve Operator Technicians that are absent and will normally collect water samples in the distribution system.
North Shore Water Commission Description
The North Shore Water Commission (NSWC) is a progressive drinking water treatment facility located in the City of Glendale, Wisconsin. It supplies water to its member utilities in Fox Point, Glendale, and Whitefish Bay and also supplies water on a wholesale basis to the City of Mequon.
Location
This position will primarily work at our main office at 400 W Bender Rd, Glendale, WI.
Supervisor
This position reports to the Operations Supervisor.
Work Schedule
Schedule varies depending on staffing needs. This position works a varied which is influenced by absences of plant staff. When there are no vacancies or shifts to fill--and all Operator Technician positions are working regular shifts--the position can work up to 40 hours using a flexible schedule.
Pay
Hourly rate of $25.21 to $32.50 depending on qualifications and years of experience

MAINTENANCE DUTIES - 15% OF TIME
Checks, cleans, and performs light maintenance on process and monitoring equipment.

Requirements of Work
This position must possess the following credentials:
- Possess and maintain WDNR waterworks operator certification--subclass surface water (S)--within 3 months of hiring.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
This position must have experience and training which provides, with or without reasonable accommodation when applicable, for the following abilities, skills, and knowledge:

- Use of computers and associated software for use in email, data entry, word processing, and spreadsheet.
- Use of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) to supervise and control treatment plant equipment and processes.
- Use of common hand and power tools.
- Use of laboratory equipment and analyzers.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE THAT MUST BE ACQUIRED OR LEARNED ON THE JOB WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF BEING IN THE POSITION
- Basic electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles.
- Water treatment plant operations.
- Chemicals used in a water treatment plant and basic chemistry.
- Basic math and algebra to perform calculations.
- Laboratory techniques.
- Awareness of workplace hazards and safety precautions.
