General Description
This is a skilled position responsible for assisting in the operation of the water treatment plant and related equipment. Work involves maintaining correct water levels, draining, washing and refilling water filters, and adjusting chemical feed. Work also includes maintaining, calibrating, and performing minor repair of instrumentation. This position will work a varied schedule to relieve Relief Operator Technicians that are absent and will normally collect water samples in the distribution system.
North Shore Water Commission Description
The North Shore Water Commission (NSWC) is a progressive drinking water treatment facility located in the City of Glendale, Wisconsin. It supplies water to its member utilities in Fox Point, Glendale, and Whitefish Bay and also supplies water on a wholesale basis to the City of Mequon.
Location
This position will primarily work at our main office at 400 W Bender Rd, Glendale, WI.
Work Schedule
Schedule varies depending on staffing needs. This position works a varied rotating shift schedule which is influenced by absences of plant staff. When thare are no vacancies and all Relief Operator Technicians are fully trained and certified to operate, this position will work a schedule that includes a flexible/relief week (see Schedule A); a minimum of 16 hours must be worked during this period if there aren’t any shifts to relieve. Otherwise, this position will work a 3-week rotation as shown below (see Schedule B).

Pay
Hourly rate of $24.23 to $31.37 depending on qualifications and years of experience

- Background check will be conducted before hiring.

Requirements of Work
Requires some experience in mechanical, electrical, and chemical areas and a high school diploma, or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides, with or without reasonable accommodation when applicable, the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
- Knowledge of computer systems for use in data entry, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
- Skill in the use of or the equivalent to Microsoft Windows operating system as well as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access.
- Skill in the use of Google software including: Documents, Spreadsheets, Calendar, Email, Forms, and Sites.
- Skill in the use of computer programs for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).
- Understanding of basic electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles.
- Knowledge of water treatment plant operations and equipment.
- Knowledge of different types of chemicals used in a water treatment plant.
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and algebra to perform calculations.
- Knowledge of various power and hand tools used in performing maintenance and cleaning tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work safely in and around various chemicals.
- Ability to maintain effective relations with other employees and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to work in a confined space for extended periods of time.
- Communicate effectively with other people.
- Possess Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) surface water certification within 6 months of date of hire.
- Possess a valid Driver's License in the State of Wisconsin and maintain a good driving record.
- Skill in the use of common hand and power tools.
- Minimum lifting requirement of 50 pounds.
Supervisor
This position works under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor and the Plant Manager.
